  • First Lutheran Church 299 Berkeley Street Boston, MA, 02116 United States (map)

The 2026 Old West Organ Society Summer Series continues with a performance by Chris Porter. This season, we are grateful to First Lutheran Church for hosting the series — featuring its splendid Richards, Fowkes & Co. instrument, Op. 10 — while Old West Church awaits necessary building repairs. Admission is free; donations are gratefully accepted in support of the Society.

Chris Porter

Chris Porter is an organist with 13 years of organ experience, in addition to 12 years of piano study. After self-teaching organ from 2013 to 2017, he studied with Christian Lane as part of the Boston Organ Studio from 2017 to 2023. As part of the studio he performed at student recitals and participated in three study trips to Europe to play and learn about the historic organs of France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden. He regularly substitutes in the Boston area, including for his home church of University Lutheran in Cambridge, as well as other Lutheran churches including Lutheran Church of the Newtons, St. Paul Lutheran in Arlington, and First Lutheran in Waltham. Chris has played recitals at Old West Church in Boston, MA and at University Lutheran Church and Harvard University’s Busch Hall in Cambridge, MA. In May 2024 he performed Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb with the Cambridge Chamber Singers. He has also provided continuo accompaniment for Cambridge Chamber Singers concerts. When he is not playing the organ, Chris works as a consultant at a transportation planning firm. He also enjoys hiking, biking, and photography.
