Sarah Johnson is a graduate of Vassar College where she studied organ performance with Gail Archer and piano performance with Todd Crow. For her last two years at Vassar she served as Music Intern at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie. For the 2015 to 2016 school year, Sarah directed the Vassar Camerata Choir, a group dedicated to the performance of early music.
Sarah began her organ lessons with Kevin Birch, organist and music director at Saint John’s Catholic Church in Bangor where she was recently featured as a recitalist for the 23rd Summer Organ Concert Series. She was named an E. Power Biggs Fellow of the Organ Historical Society in 2013. Over the summers of 2015 and 2016 she was the Resident Organ Intern on Squirrel Island, Maine.
Since beginning college she has performed in New York City at Central Synagogue and placed second in the 2015 Eastern NY region of the AGO’s RCYO/Quimby competition. Sarah is currently studying for a Master of Sacred Music in Organ at Boston University with Peter Sykes and serves as Organ Scholar at Holy Name Parish in West Roxbury.
