Old West's new lunchtime series, featuring local student organists, continues with a performance by Dennis Chan (Boston Organ Studio).
BACH: Prelude and Fugue in D Major, BWV 532
REGER: Introduction and Passacaglia in D Minor
VIERNE: Carillon de Westminster
Dennis Chan came from a musical family in Hong Kong and started learning piano at the young age of 6. By age 12 he was regularly accompanying his church choir and was then appointed pianist of the church. He began learning the pipe organ in 2003 under the instruction of Ronald Ebrecht, while pursuing a Physics degree at Wesleyan University. As a student of Ronald's, he performed concerts in Connecticut, Colorado, and Guadalajara, Mexico.
He is currently a student of Christian Lane in Boston and performs regularly in venues such as Old West Church and Harvard University. Not content to just play the organ, Dennis also recently built his own - an electronic organ using an Arduino board, scavenged parts, and his software engineering skills. Always looking to help others pursue the craft, he would be happy to help interested individuals build their own affordable practice organs.
