Yuko Hayashi (1929–2018)

A native of Japan, Yuko Hayashi came to Boston to study at the new England Conservatory of Music, and was invited to join the faculty in 1960. Beginning with her recital at the 1968 International Organ Festival in Haarlem, Holland, she enjoyed an international career as a recitalist, performing on historic instruments in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland. She also frequently toured the United States and Japan. Ms. Hayashi was head of the Organ Department at the New England Conservatory of Music until her retirement, was Director of Music at Old West Church, and was founding President of the Old West Organ Society.
