BOSTON ORGAN ACADEMY

Boston Organ Academy - 2009

with Yuko Hayashi & Jon Gillock
Five Days of Artistic Study
Monday (noon) – Friday (noon), January 12 - 16

The Boston Organ Academy is held at Old West Church, 131 Cambridge Street, using the internationally renowned 1971 Fisk organ built in eclectic style. Old West Church is located near the Government Center T-station in downtown Boston and is easily accessible by public transportation from the airport.

The Academy offers a select number of participants (around 8) five days of artistic study in daily masterclasses. All participants will take part in both classes and will play everyday. Both faculty members will be present at all classes. Auditors who do not perform are also welcome. The Academy will begin at noon on January 12 and will finish at noon on January 16. Mornings will be available for practice. Masterclasses will be held in the afternoons: 1-3 and 4-6. The final class will be held on Monday morning. There will be a dinner for all on Wednesday at a nearby restaurant.

Each participant is asked to submit a list of pieces from each of the two categories below, in order of preference, that he/she wishes to perform and study during the Academy. This list could contain, for example, one substantial piece (like a Prelude and Fugue or a movement from a symphony) or several shorter movements (such as an entire Kyrie of a Mass or a group of other short pieces).

REPERTOIRE
Yuko Hayashi's Class:
pieces to be chosen from the works of Frescobaldi, Couperin, Grigny, Buxtehude, Bruhns, J. S. Bach
Jon Gillock's Class:
pieces to be chosen from the works of Duruflé, Franck, Messiaen, Tournemire, and Vierne
It is possible to request other repertoire.

FEES
Participants - $450
Auditors - $250 for the entire week or $75 per day
