About Louise Mundinger
Louise Mundinger is Music Director at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Boston, where she serves as organist, conducts the Cathedral’s Choral Scholars, and convenes bi-weekly meetings for musicians from the Diocese of Massachusetts. She is currently leading efforts to restore the Cathedral’s pipe organs. (Stay tuned.)
She studied at New England Conservatory with Yuko Hayashi and Christa Rakich, and Valparaiso University with William Eifrig and Philip Gehring. With Yuko, Louise spent many hours at Opus 55 learning to hear the music underneath the notes.
A recipient of the Frank Huntington Beebe Award, Louise studied organ performance with Zsigmond Szathmáry in Freiburg, Germany, and has performed concerts in both France and Germany. She was a prizewinner in the San Anselmo Organ Improvisation Competition and has received commissions from the American Guild of Organists, the American Composers Forum (Faith Partners Program), and the Diocese of Massachusetts, among others. Her writing has appeared in The American Organist and Musforum.
Louise was awarded the Talbot Baker Teaching Award at Milton Academy in 2008, where she facilitated a biennial music exchange with L’École de Musique de Persan (France) for over 20 years, supported in part by the Florence Gould Foundation. Dedicated to expanding audiences for organ music, she strives to make music impactful for listeners—“I heard that!” is the response she hopes to inspire.
A past Dean of the Boston Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (BAGO), and current chair of the BAGO organ library committee, she also directed the AGO’s National New Music Committee for six years, overseeing four national composition competitions and the distribution of $20,000 in annual funding.
