Geoffrey Wieting
Though born in Boston, Geoffrey Wieting grew up largely in York Harbor, ME, first studying the organ there with Ernest Fiske at Trinity Church. He continued his organ and harpsichord studies with Lynda Copeland at Phillips Exeter Academy where he won prizes in Latin and music and graduated with honors. Geoffrey then attended Oberlin College and Conservatory, studying organ with Haskell Thomson and receiving bachelor's degrees in classics and organ performance. While singing for many years in the choir at Trinity Church, Copley Square, he also was active as a freelance organist and collaborative pianist/vocal coach, ultimately obtaining a M.Mus. in the latter from New England Conservatory; his work there was with Terry Decima, Margo Garrett, and Martin Katz. He continues to pursue the same endeavors but has added writing classical reviews for the Boston Musical Intelligencer (classical-scene.com) since 2009.
