A native of St. Catharines Ontario, Canada, Christiaan Teeuwsen is an alumnus of Dordt College. He received his BA from Dordt College (1980) where he studied organ with Dr. Joan Ringerwole. He received a Master of Fine Arts (1983), and Doctor of Musical Arts (1994) at the University of Iowa, completing studies with Dr. Delores Bruch and Dr. Delbert Disselhorst. Teeuwsen was awarded the Uitvoerend Musicus - Orgel (Solo Diploma - Organ/1984) for Organ Performance from the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. During studies in The Netherlands and Germany he was assistant organist to Klaas Bolt at the Grote of Sint Bavo Kerk in Haarlem (1983-85). During his tenure in Europe he studied with Harold Vogel at the North German Organ Academy, and Ton Koopman (Utrecht) in organ.
He has recorded on historic instruments in The Netherlands; Bach meets Buxtehude on theBader Organ (1641) in Zutphen; North German Organ Works on the Schnitger Organ (1702) in Groningen; Baroque Dances and The Organ Works Of Georg Böhm for the Naxos label on the Reil organ (1999) in the Bovenkerk, Kampen, and recently completed a CD on the Casavant organ in Dordt College chapel. Christiaan has given recitals and workshops throughout The United Sates, Canada, The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and South Korea.
He is Director of Musicat MacNab Street Presbyterian Church in Hamilton, and Professor of music at Redeemer University College (Organ and Choral music) in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada. (www.redeemer.ca).
